On Friday, October 3rd at Tech Council headquarters in Harrisburg, B Theory hosts Majora Carter, social entrepreneur and internationally recognized thought leader in urban renewal. Majora will be joining us to share about her work in NYC, technology adoption and job creation in the inner city through StartUp Box #SouthBronx. The event will also spotlight new student-driven tech pilots in Harrisburg through Jump Street’s new WheelHouse initiative, while casting the vision for expanding Majora’s powerful social innovations to PA through the coming launch of StartUp Box #Harrisburg, as a joint venture with Harrisburg’s own B Theory Inc.
With the StartUp Box model, Majora now has the media and tech departments of companies like Nickelodeon, Viacom and the City of New York ‘homesourcing’ entry level tech jobs to the inner city, bringing jobs back home and fortifying local communities with entrepreneurship and socially conscious development.
Majora Carter, whose existing clients include Google, WholeFoods and Etsy, grew up in the same South Bronx neighborhoods she's now revitalizing and is ranked on Fast Company's list of '100 Most Creative People in Business' and Sachs' list of '100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs.’
Doors open at 11:30am with lunch provided, as B Theory founders, Bob Welsh and Ian Kanski book-end the conversation with updates on innovative education and vanguard community development that integrates student workforce teams with entrepreneurs working on real world projects around under-served civic needs.
